The HMI is a step backwards

by Jupo | 2 months ago | version reviewed: 8
I'm extremely disappointed in the desktop and menu layout. It's unintuitive, clunky, and reminds me of a childrens book (for some strange reason....). Why MS decided to go this route is clearly evident from the influence of tablets such as the iPad et all. IMHO, I think it's a step backward.

It's analogous to the steering wheel in an automobile; it's been around a long time, and yes, there are alternatives, but if it works well, is easy to use, and facilitates mastering the learning curvve in a short period of time is doesn't make sense to change.

Pros:

None at this time.

Cons:

HMI, menus, user experience.

Need operating manual

I downloaded the Beta edition and put on disk. I tried it on 3 computers and it came up with errors and wouldn't install. I installed 1gb more ram on my desktop and it suddenly asked to install. I let it install (clean install only) and I am currently fooling around with it. I mean "fooling" because there is no manual or help to know how it works. Most icons do not work. There are some really nice things like weather with moving background but the movement is choppy. I will continue to experiment but I wish I could have a manual to check out things better

Pros:

Nice new refreshing home screen, like apps like weather, etc. I am catching on new stuff faster than I thought

Cons:

It is kind of choppy and I don't like the way apps look (its like beginner, not professional)

I did not see anything that said how long this is going to work and what happens when evaluation is over.

Pros:

Cons:

Wont work with my lcd tv as a monitor
